Sigma-Tau Research, Inc. is a national leader in the development of compounds used in a variety of clinical indications. Ongoing and planned research includes applications for central and peripheral nervous system, oncology and cardiovascular disease.

Sigma-Tau Research is developing a series of compounds, in a variety of clinical indications, for the USA market.

  • Propionyl-L-carnitine (ST 261)
    This compound has completed phase III trials for Intermittent Claudication, and an NDA is being prepared. Future development areas will focus on the cardiovascular system.

  • Acetyl-L-carnitine (ST 200)
    This compound has been developed to treat both Alzheimer's disease and peripheral diabetic neuropathy, where it has completed phase III trials. Future areas of development will continue to revolve around cognition and peripheral neuropathy of different origins.

  • Gimatecan (ST 1481)
    A camptothecin derivative, Gimatecan is in phase I-II trials for malignant glioma and other solid tumors.

Other new chemical entities will be entering the clinical development phase, starting in the second half of 2002, for other cardiovascular diseases (ST 2744, ST 1326) and in oncology (PAGRIT, angiogenesis).
